AZ: CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR COACHING BUSINESS AS A WHOLE?
SZ: I am a speaker, life coach and business coach. However, my #CoachSonia brand has evolved to ambassadorships, collaborations, events and retreats. In June, I took 20 people to Greece during my sold out #coachsoniaretreat to immerse them in the full personal development and business coaching experience.
By traveling to the sun and calm life of Greece, the #CoachSonia retreat embodies the objective and models the lifestyle I aim to impart to my clients. I flew in my team along with another phenomenal coach in order to take everyone out on beautiful hikes, Greek restaurants and daily adventures to ensure they are fully immersed in the experience.
We dove deep into their inner worlds through personal development and helped them get a clear vision on the relationships, blockages and patterns that are stopping them. In the afternoon, we tackled their business and career goals!
At the end of the retreat they left with a complete business plan, financial and sales projections, as well as the next steps to grow and scale their business.
AZ: WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE?
SZ: I love that I can plan my own schedule, balance my kids’ pickups, date nights with my husband and set up my own work schedule. I am in control of my daily, weekly, monthly life and that is super vital to my own mental and physical well-being.
What I dislike is the constant feeling that work is never done. There are always more emails, phone calls and messages to address. Since I am my own boss, I feel like I am always working.
AZ: WHAT IS ONE FAILURE YOU ENCOUNTERED WHILE BUILDING YOUR BUSINESS AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME IT?
SZ: I tried to do it all! I am terrible at fiscal-related issues, legal gibberish and the day-to-day tasks. I once thought I had to be great at everything to be a successful entrepreneur. Now I let experts to their job. I delegate the day-to-day tasks to my assistant and focus on revenue generating activities and the big picture lens of what that looks like.
I focus my energy on coaching and developing the business. I’m always looking to the future and what’s next. I love surrounding myself with people who are amazing at the things I am no good at. I know that it truly takes a phenomenal team to win in business and I’ve learned to delegate.
Tell us about the happiest moment of your career/hardest moment?
The happiest part of my career is learning from the best in the business. Watching Bruce Makowsky present the new collection to 20 members of QVC when I was just starting off in hand bags was the ultimate motivation for me. Sitting down with Vince Camuto as he taught me his passion and drive to build the empire he has built and being in the audience as he won Father of the Year in 2014, I mean, that was so inspirational! Watching Deb and Ken Planko create a household name out of their passion with Sancturary clothing. Meeting Tony Robbins and understanding the level of success he has achieved by giving people the tools they need to succeed in their lives.
AZ: WHAT BUSINESS ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS OVERWHELMED AND DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO SCALE THEIR BUSINESS?
SZ: Delegate!!!! After delegating, I’d say, prioritize, budget and build the game plan to scale. I have a ton of business advice since it’s what I do for a living! Book me as a coach and I’ll help you scale your business. That’s one of the aspects of business development I love most!
AZ: DO YOU SEE YOURSELF BRINGING ON YOUR CHILDREN ONE DAY TO WORK WITH YOU IN YOUR BUSINESS?
SZ: My kids have been at the office, on a plane, at New York fashion week, the Las Vegas convention centre and involved in every part of my work since they were each 3 weeks old. My daughter comes to my events, my kids came on my retreat prep-trip to Greece and are always front row seeing me speak. I always wanted to be a mom that took my kids everywhere and that is exactly what I am doing. Maybe one day they will want to be coaches but I can’t predict the future. Hopefully I will leave a legacy they can be a part of if they ever so choose.
AZ: WHAT IS A TYPICAL OUTFIT YOU WEAR WHEN MEETING WITH CLIENTS?
SZ: I love a great power suit! On stage, I like to wear a Marc Cain power suit or a dress from Prfkt -Europa. My one-on-one coaching sessions are much more casual since I normally coach clients from home. I’m a big fan of athleisure and I want my clients to feel comfortable as well.
AZ: WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE TIPS FOR ALWAYS LOOKING PUT-TOGETHER ON THE GO?
SZ: Concealer is my best friend! Sleep is not something I get much of with my business and family life, so concealer is my must have! I have mobile glam for hair and makeup that come to my house so I can work as they get me ready for events. My smile is my true signature. I honestly feel like no matter what you’re wearing, if you are smiling and confident then that trumps any outfit!
AZ: WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO SHOP TO REFRESH YOUR CLOSET? HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO GET NEW PIECES?
SZ: I am so fortunate to work with brands I love such as Marc Cain, Sanctuary Clothing and stores like Prfkt -Europa. Of course, stylists are my go-to. I love that they know my size, my style and make shopping so easy. I don’t have much time to shop for myself, so being able to trust I’ve hired the right people to make me look my best is a little party trick I cling tightly to.
AZ: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LOOKING PUT-TOGETHER FOR YOU?
SZ: If you look your best, then you’ll feel great about yourself. It’s an obvious correlation. More than that, investing time in enhancing your look, putting together a great outfit, spending a minute on hair and makeup… all of that just says you are prepared to show up for yourself. If you can invest time in yourself, it means you are worth it. These are big messages to send inward and they tend to see immediate results in terms of confidence.
AZ: WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS?
SZ: My #CoachSonia retreat in Greece was sold out! So I recently took my clients on a trip they will never forget. I am also working on a show, online courses, new city events, a book and my winter retreat. As well, I am working on my one-on-one coaching and speaking. You can follow my journey on IG as I love to take you behind the scenes through IG stories and posts!
